Hey, guys.

Sorry, ya'll. I knew it had been ages since I posted anything on the blog, but I hadn't realised that it was coming up for two months. I'm so sorry! So, if I retain any loyal readers, I thank you.

I guess the most popular thing that people come to read this page about is my take on the political situation in America/Alaska, so I guess a wee update.

I received a rather exciting parcel in the post about two weeks ago - my official postal ballot. I realised that I had no idea what was happening or who the judges were, so I failed to vote on that at all, because I feel it is a much worse sin to vote for something I totally disagree with just for the sake of voting. How silly, I think! So, that was left blank.

In the meantime, I found myself voting solidly Democrat in this election. This is a first for me - I have always had mixed ballots in the past - usually between an independent candidate and the Dems in AK, but there was once a GOP candidate. My conscience wouldn't let me vote for the super-dodgey GOP in Alaska this time, though. So the mayor of Anchorage, who is my favourite politician in Alaska anyway, got my vote for US Senate (Mark Begich - my high school, Bartlett-Begich H.S. was partially named for his father, actually). Ethan Berkowitz was my choice for US House of Representatives to replace incumbent idiot/sleazeball Don Young. He's always been a really decent guy to me, even when I was just a lackey/patsy on a failed gubernatorial campaign for former Lt. Gov. Fran Ulmer and I think his energy policies, in particular, are immanently sensible. He also is part owner of my favourite cafe in Anchorage, so that's always important. I mean, Tony Knowles owns one as well, the Downtown Deli, but I could never afford to eat there, so I can't comment on the quality of the experience. Also, it was on 4th Ave. I never hung out on 4th Ave because I wasn't a tourist or working for the court.

Anyhow, that is the exciting bit. You probably realise that this means I voted Obama. Yup. Voted against my governor (boy, it felt good! especially after she defeated Tony Knowles like that... Then again, maybe it means he's finally retired and back into the restaurant business again.). And against the best Republican candidate we have had in a very, very long time. No, seriously. I think the last Republican I liked as much as John McCain was George H W Bush. Yes, I did like Bush I. My vote, as I mentioned previously, wasn't so much a vote against McCain himself, but against his absolutely stupid and cynical choice of Sarah Palin.

Then again, at least we have gotten some amazing Saturday Night Live moments out of it...

EDIT: I tried to embed this, but it didn't work, so I'm just sticking up the link. You've probably seen it before, and if you haven't SHAME ON YOU.
