back from Vancouver!

notable tidbits:

Sara and I went to Van for the night and stayed in the Marriott near the airport, which was super swank (two TVs, a separate living room and two cushy beds) and had a perfect view of the Best Western across the parking lot. we saw a bunch of film apparatus and didn't think much of it, but after we returned from a pub called the Foggy Dew (that we kept calling the Fuzzy Mist by mistake) we saw they were filming a movie! it was something about John Tucker or whatever, but the kicker is Jesse Metcalf, aka the hot gardener on Desperate Housewives and the OC, and Ashanti were in it! we craned our necks and got really close to the set but didn't see either of them. but the crew member did give us the call sheet. souvenir!!

today we woke up early and took advantage of the pool and workout room, then we drove downtown and did a bit of shopping for some trendy off the shoulder long shirts. next on to Granville Island, which is the most crowded place ever on Saturdays...but free parking, delicious fish and chips and tons of cool shops and a public market, etc. I loves it. then we hopped the Aquabus, at Peter's recommendation, and went to check out his old haunt of Yaletown. the guide book said it was like the Soho of Vancouver, and it was right. classy grocery stores and restaurants, cute home deco and clothes stores, swanky condos (Peter informed on the phone that he used to live high up in the tallest one) that go for way too much money that I still fell in love with. Vancouver is too big for me but Yaletown is so residential and gorgeous (all along the water) that I could see myself there if I could ever afford the $1300+ one bedroom rent. someday.

then we stopped at Ikea on the way back to the ferry and I bought a sweet wine rack, a duvet cover, a cheese grater and some candle holders. this weekend made me think a lot about where I want to live, how I want to decorate, who I want to live with, etc. and it made me appreciate Victoria's community feel a bit more, too. in Vancouver I could remain relatively anonymous. here, not so. either way, I love British Columbia and the culture here.

five more days until Canada Day! off to bed! xo.
