So, a recap. A petition is circulating the internet to ask Google to remove a heinous, hate-spewing anti-semitic website from its cache because it is the first thing you see when you search for Jew online.
There's another solution which would make the website less significant, without censoring the internet. That is to type the word Jew into your website, and link it to the wekipedia definition of Jew at www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jew.
The evil website, Jew Watch, still tops out at #1, but the Wekipedia definition is gaining on 'em at #2, up from 5 just yesterday.
To my way thinking, this is an opportunity for an important teachable moment. We have a chance to spread the word that hate groups have an inordinate amount of power on the internet because they know how to manipulate it, and that good people need to learn to use these organizing tools, as well. It's is also a chance to share what being a Jew means, as well as to remind many people that our struggle for equality and acceptance is not over.
Erasing this website--or thousands like it out there--won't change this. The answer to hate speech on the internet is still the same as it's been in every medium that's proceeded it--more speech.
