After a long period of facebook, and a brief sojourn to google plus, I forgot completely about livejournal. Not much has changed :) That may be for the better. It tells me people are doing more and writing less. Congrats!

A quick update.

Lynne and I are now officially parents. Here's a picture of our new son Ira:

From Home at last

He is now just over a month old. That has been the biggest event in our recent past.

While in the hospital NICU (yes, he was born six weeks "early"), we spent a lot of time agonizing about his health, losing sleep, and also I interviewed with several companies throughout the west coast in search of a job for when I graduate. An incredible amount of energy gets spent worrying about small people that we barely know when their health is at risk. Everything turned out for the better though, and a rapid recuperation means that now he's a healthy, vibrant, and bouncing baby.

As for interviews - Least impressive interviews: Amazon. Most fun interviews: Microsoft. Google was promising, but I'll pass. Everyone was very friendly, helpful, and made it sound like I'd love working with them and so on. After pulling offers together I came to a final decision to work with Microsoft. I was ambivalent at first, but now I feel really good and excited about it. They hired me on as an SDE (software developer engineer) in test. Their offer was really nice, and they will pay for me to get a masters degree in CS... along with all the internal courses I get to take! I start in April, and our local chapter of the Shamay family will be moving to Seattle in late March.

With that said, I have an oral thesis defense date set for the end of February 2012. This is all very exciting and a lot happened all at once.

The holiday season is rapidly coming to a close. Only another 3 days to go. It's an emotionally draining time of year with lots of reflection taking. I had a lot of really big things happen all at once, and I'm feeling really blessed to be where I am.
