I think today, I'm going to tell you about a book I read while I was road nomading around this last month. It's called The Song of Achilles. :3
I was way out of my depth because my knowlege of Greek myths and all the different translations is pretty limited. I know more Norse myths than Greek. 😂 Anyways, I'm super glad I picked up this book. THIS BOOK WAS SO FUCKING GOOD!!! STUNNING. WONDERFULLY written and and............TRAGIC.....
This is the single most beautiful and tragic story I have ever read. ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT MASTERPIECE. I love the fact that the book is mostly about Patroclus himself, because in everything else I've read and seen about the Trojan War he was only someone important to Achilles, there were not many details about his personality. In this book, you get to know more about him. The whole book is from Patroclus point of view, even after his death. I have seen and enjoyed the film Troy but this explains everything WAY better and tells the story the right way.
Why am I so affected by feels?? Why did I give fandoms so much power over me??? I DON'T KNOW IF I HAVE THE WORDS TO EXPRESS HOW I FEEL ABOUT THIS BOOK. I've never read anything quite so heartbreaking, and I've rarely seen a love quite so pure as the one betwen Patroclus and Achilles. I've certainly never read a pure love so beautifully written. I am %100 sure that I have to buy this book now because I'm sure I'm going to want to read it time and time again.
This is like a Romeo and Juliet love......I coudn't give this book less than five stars. I think that a book that makes you feel a lot must be truly amazing. And this one was really heart breaking. When Patroclus dies.....poor Achilles can't let his body go for days...it's sooo sad. I highly recommend it to EVERYONE!! Esp; if you love LGBTQ+ reads.
This love...does it only exist in tragedies? Because it's perfect.
EDIT: I ended up doing nothing but lay around in front of the computer on Tumblr looking at Patroclus&Achilles fan art while my kids played Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare on the PS4. I guess doing something tomorrow! Yay~!
