I didn't see anything disallowing this, and it's been bugging me for years, so I thought I'd ask. Years ago, probably right after Pokemon's big summer, I found a fanfic off of the Animewebturnpike.
It was about a girl who lived on Cinnabar, who is going to get her first pokemon, and is hooked up to a machine to see what type is most suited to her. She's hoping for a fire type, but the machine determines that she has psychic abilities, and should take a psychic pokemon. She blacks out and the machine is destroyed. There was also a point in her past where her powers surged and she did alot of damage.
I don't remember what pokemon she finally got, but I know she had a Rattata that couldn't evolve,and an Eevee. The Eevee had a crush on I think a pidgeot, that belonged either to the girl, or someone who might've been traveling with them. There was mention of a really rare 'air stone' or something of the sort, that could let her evolve into a flying-type, so she could get the pidgeot's attention.
It was on a site, I think the last I saw there were 20 something chapters, and they were going on a ship. The girl could communicate with her pokemon. If you think you know what this fic is, even if you don't know where please let me know!
