I think it's about time we discuss one of The Jackson 5/Jacksons albums.
A little background history: The main reason why The Jackson 5 left Motown for CBS/Epic was because they had no creative control whatsoever. Any songs they wrote were not allowed on their albums and they weren't allowed to produce or play instruments in the studio. They left Motown for CBS in 1975 and renamed themselves the Jacksons with a new member, Randy who replaced Jermaine.
Their first two albums for CBS, The Jacksons and Goin' Places were still largely spearheaded by the label, but they wrote and played instruments on most of the songs. However, Destiny is the first album where they had complete creative control. It later became their first official platinum album since none of their albums on Motown were ever sent to the RIAA for official certification despite all their success.
This is the album that we can thank for the two slightly overlooked classics Blame It On The Boogie and Shake Your Body(Down to the Ground). I also see it as somewhat of a precursor to Off The Wall with it's funky disco-lite style.
Besides Blame It On The Boogie and Shake Your Body, there's That's What You Get(For Being Polite) which is a sweet mid-tempo ballad, another ballad Bless His Soul, two other "get on the floor" jams All Night Dancin' and Things I Do For You(the latter of which somewhat reminds me of Working Day And Night) and the songs Destiny and Push Me Away which i'm mostly indifferent to now but expect to grow on me sooner or later.
What are your thoughts on Destiny?
