Indian Vampires!

Well, we're back from another excellent trip to Ashland. Play reviews will follow, but for now, I just have to mention my new favorite movie.

Horror fans, take note: we've already immersed ourselves in the fantastic sub-genre of the chop-sockey vampire flick (chief among them Jiang Shi Fan Sheng, known in English as either The New Mr. Vampire or Kung Fu Vampire Buster. The entire "Mr. Vampire" series is a great deal of fun, with artsy shots intermingled with slapstick and a healthy dose of martial arts. Goofy hopping vampires! So happy-making.

We have now expanded our cultural horizons by viewing the equally fabulous Bandh Darawaza, which is, I kid you not, Bollywood vampires!

I heart Netflix just ever so much. Yes, the copy is grainy. Yes, it's horribly horribly bad. But it's good-bad, people. Including the obligatory Bollywood song-and-dance numbers! In the middle of the action! Dance numbers! Little tiny cars! Evil witches! Poor English translations! Possessed girls shaking their saried bootays! Red-eyed vamps with westernized cloaks! Meddling servants! Superstitious fathers! A plethora of religious symbols! Bat statues!

What's not to like?
