Tell the story behind your name.

He could have been Joseph Michael, but Grampa Joe won the coin toss. It was an old family tradition, naming the boys after their father and maternal grandfather, in whichever order sounds better, or by vote, or by, in this case, tossing a coin. Michael Joseph Connor, and he could have been Junior but somehow he was always the diminutive Mike, as his dad was always Michael. He was their little man, after all, at least until his mother died.

Joseph Cornelius Peters is dead now. They all are. Margaret Eleanor Peters. Sarah Elisabeth Peters. Michael Allen Connor. Allen Daniel Connor. Elsie Freda Connor. All dead and gone, remembered by so few. He leaves their names out. He has since Nate. Mike, he tells people. Really, it's just Mike. Not Nate or Cable-Nate or Forge or, or whoever. Just Mike. No more, no less. He knows who he is. He knows. And everybody else who could have given him a name is dead now.
