Birds, prototypes and linguistics

I hate trying to explain Eleanor Rosch's prototype theory. I'm at the point where I can't avoid writing about how "the most prototypical" bird for the Brits is a robin (for Finns it's a sparrow, just so you know) and also can't help feeling very, very silly. OMGWTFpolarbearprototypical birds!!

Yes, I'm working on the theory chapter of my thesis. And yes, this is supposed to be linguistics.
