Monday 18th July, 2011:
I’ve dreamed two nights running now, which is almost unprecedented, and what made me decide to start publishing these accounts to LiveJournal.

On Saturday night I dreamed that I was living in a weird mish-mash of my current apartment and a room I occupied the summer after graduating university in 2003. A guy I half-know from around Nottingham was crashing shirtless on a sofa against the wall to my right (which isn’t there in my current place, nor was it in the old one) and the space to the left of my monitor which is currently occupied by my scanner was instead filled by the TV I gave away in 2002. It was showing one of those dreadful “improve and flog your property” programmes that stupid people seem so enamoured of these days, except because the house under scrutiny had so many gnomes in the garden the background music they were using was ‘Little Men’ by fucking Korpiklaani.

However, upon waking and doing a spot of research, it seems there is no Korpiklaani song called ‘Little Men’. Hmm. The things you “know” in dreams, eh? I definitely recognised the song, though (odd in itself, as my dreams are usually soundless); my brain must have appended its own made-up title to an existing piece of (pretty gay) music.

Last night I dreamed I was back in a high-school English class, with the next three highest-achieving pupils from my A-Level group. I arrived late for the lesson, and the teacher was annoyed at me for bringing my own battered 1977 printing of Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure rather than the big, expensive newer edition bound in red leather than she wanted us to have.

Quote of the Day:
“… school was a place that, for most of the day, must not exist, so that there was never any question of going back there. Only during the last countdown must it be sufficiently reconstructed to make return a possibility.”
- John le Carré, The Perfect Spy
