The hardest part for me is not taking it personally, and not getting frustrated. Right now, it seems that anyone who is hiring for any entry-level service position is waiting for the over-qualified-college-graduate applicant to flip their burgers or work in their call center instead (that is IF the job hasn't been outsourced already, but I digress...) I find it extremely difficult to prove I'm better than the other applicants when half of my competition is very over-qualified. My last job was a data-entry position at a temp agency, and most of my co-workers had batchelor's or master's degrees (for what is normally an entry-level position that only requires typing skills!) I find it difficult not to be depressed after spending hours filling out extremely long online applications that ask for all your personal details, and then not receiving any response. Sometimes I think that in 20 years, the economy and labor surplus is gonna be so bad that you have to have a doctorate in order to work in food service... Hopefully things will improve.
