Picasso and other wonderful distractions ...

Aug 28, 2006 14:15

I have had THE BEST Sunday of my life this weekend just gone.
Woke up feeling VERY average around 8:30am called
st3vil at about 9:30am to 1. wake him up from his strange alternate universe from the night before 2. see if he was human enough to come get me and 3. see if he had a spare smoke while doing so. Upon the clock ticking over its early 12th hour we were on the open road ... zooming in and out of slow moving traffic heading ever closer to the wonderful wide world of OUT THERE!!

A quick stop at Ballan saw salad flying through the interior of the car and tomatoes landing in weird places. 5 coffees, 2 cokes, 2 meals and 15 smokes EACH later we arrived in the National Gallery of Victoria's swanky underground parking. It never ceases to amaze me just what they do with that building - i mean seriously velvet carpeted stairs in the CARPARK!!! We were due to meet
ctudball,
saffireblue and
sae_ra early in the day but it just couldn't be done.

Props go out to
trentiusmaximus on his strength and agility for HIS day out in Melbourne ... congrats on the win my dear bear!!! I'm so glad you got so much out of yesterday, it's great to see you smile so big :D Within this glowing note for you also I am including my apologies for not being there to see it - I'm shattered I was so f*cked from Saturday.

Waiting out the front of the gallery was great .
St3vil was going off his nuts taking bouncy photos  EVERYWHERE of EVERYTHING - including me running around the big white Picasso sign like a nutjob. We managed to scare at least 6 security guards as they went through the motions of their individual change-overs. Once on the inside these pescy little security peoples became an even bigger worry lol both of us had one tagging close behind the whole way through ... whats wrong with creating art in an art environment???

200 photos, 3 different dances and 6 security guards later the trio turned up full to the brim on a buffet meal - some ridiculous number of dishes (9 maybe). We all headed in only to be completely absorbed in the scariest man I've EVER seen singin some tormented hymn.
St3vil was just doin his thing taking photos before ANY of us 4 had any idea there was a MASSIVE stain glass mosaic roof above us ... we only realised when he showed us the photo he'd taken lol - DOUCHE!!!! The entrance was quite impressive and the 3 hours spent washing through the sea of arty people that followed was heaven. So many images to take in, so many concepts began to form and so many idea came crashing through the barrier of my brain - i got swept up in the madness of this man called Picasso.

IF there was ANYthing that could warrant complaining about it would be the fact that there wasn't more of his ceramics and sculpture but the collection that had been put together was tremendous. Guernica did not make an appearance in the "flesh" but a scale size projection of the art work in progress made up for it 10fold. The weeping woman stared out from multiple walls and crazy prints adorned classy tabular wall compartments. I got lost in the swirl of people and paint only to come tumbling out at the other end in front of a brilliant book. Everyone had their alone time with the art and then met up for Starbucks after.

The whole trip was made even more perfect by the crazy old man on the corner crying for someone to listen to him and God through a microphone. A slightly apprehensive trip into the back streets provided an unexpected surprise - 3 alley ways FULL to the brim of styled street art with just as much quality as the International exhibition we had just left. From there it was smooth sailing all the way through a state's worth of road to mum's for a surprise late night visit from the two of us. The whole way up and back we spent talking and discussing all kinds of wonderful things. Within the next month the
st3vil and I are off - out and about - to create a new world of art and happy good times filled with creativity. I love it! He challenges me and it works.

I have an overwhelming feeling of contentment after this weekend. I haven't felt this happy in a LONG time. I missed having you there to bounce ideas off ... thank you!
