not much to report today. i climbed a plateau today and felt really a lot better. it was a nice surprising change. i will probably still go to the doctor once our health insurance kicks in (in mid-july it looks like). stefanie's mom is really upset about that girl that got kidnapped in the target parking lot in overland park. she thinks that the suspect should get the death-penalty. i can't figure out why everyone is latching on to this story. i guess it's supposed to be so incredibly shocking that an innocent teenage girl was abducted and killed in a nice wholesome upper-middle-class vanilla cupcake land suburb in the midwest. not so shocking- that fucked up shit can happen anywhere...
stefanie's parents are also big into the death penalty- they take the hillbilly- 'they just sit in prison living off of our tax-dollars- they should just kill them- it'd be cheaper!' stance. we really did grow up in conservative bullshit land. sometimes it seems like it wasn't that bad, but the longer we're away the more i realise it really was conservative bullshit land...
it is sad that that girl was kidnapped and killed. it's sad whenever that happens. it also happens all over the country in many different places- most often in really economically depressed parts of town. making a fuss because it's in someplace 'wholesome' and 'nice' seems to denegrate the areas where such a thing is more commonplace. maybe someone should be making a big deal about that fact...
