Ten things people might be surprised to learn about you.

1. In his youth, Rupert Giles was an average student (read straight C’s) although brilliant and had a reputation for causing fights and dabbling in Dark Magicks at the Academy. When he was 21, he left Oxford, living as a Dark Wizard for several years before finally returning to the Watcher Council.

2. He is actually a well seasoned confidence man, and entirely too talented at it to have “abandoned” it completely nearly twenty years ago. He actually still practices quick changes at banks, grocery stores and bookstores to keep in practice. He does, however, always return the money. The same goes for stealing cars.

3. Before being assigned to Buffy, he was sent to Blackshed, a sort of rite of passage/punishment the Watcher Council reserves for their own. He’s one of the few survivors of the test although it still gives him nightmares.

4. He had a Potential under his care in England; named Bridget Ross, called “Jet” after their shared love of airplanes. He was her Watcher for a little under a decade, but since she was never Chosen, Jet decided to join the Watchers while Giles was slotted for reassignment. Jet, who was studying History in college, never quite forgave him for leaving so abruptly (true to form, Giles said goodbye in a letter, not in person) although they remained in touch.

He’s Godfather to her son, Miles Master Ross. He’s named after a fighter plane. Her husband, a English professor asked Giles for Jet’s hand in marriage.

5. He sky-dived with Jet on her 18th birthday, and took Jenny to prove he could be spontaneous without the nitro-burning funny cars.

6. He will occasionally sing at ‘open mike’ nights.

7. He likes to compete in sharpshooting competitions, with crossbow and rifle. Although he rarely takes top honors; he usually places in top five and has been known to ‘throw’ competitions.

8. Among his favorites: Holiday: Halloween, Movie: Halloween, Candy: Pop Rocks, and Comic: Tintin.

9. He owns an autographed copy of Interview with the Vampire. He claims it’s a gag gift.

10. He’s from England, an authority on the Occult, and a bit of a warlock but has never visited Stonehenge. He also doesn’t own a single Beatles album. The last part is a source of pride.
