Well, suffice to say, I was going to be on hiatus for a time, but looks like the universe had other plans.
Calcutta (or Kolkata, as in it's new moniker) was waterlogged. Not flooded as yet, but the clogged drains couldn't contain the incessant rains, and the city was reeling. More than half of the city was in a problem, with waist-deep water even in

Narrow-mindedness is a disease all over the world. Humans are super-slow to change, so it's not a huge surprise when we run into bigotry and prejudice... but still, that's crazy that India is still living under nearly-medieval British laws!!
But then again, sodomy is still illegal in several countries (including at least one state in the US that I know of), so the State is still getting into the bedrooms of the people. It's sickening. All we can do is raise the next generations of children to accept all races, colours, creeds and sexual orientations. Fear and ignorance are terrible cancers in our society.

Not when they pronounce "What are you doing?" as "Bhaaat are you dooong?" *giggle* No, they act like kings there.
I really like your insight. Fear is such a terrible cancer, and creates so many problems in society. This law just shames us. India has so many things to be proud of, and then this...
Sodomy is illegal...that's strange. Even a year ago, there was a big ruckus about legalising gay marriages.

Well, I hope that the powers that be in India will abolish that silly law!
Yes, it's illegal in the Dominican Republic for sure.. and I'm not sure if the US state has taken away that law of theirs, but I kind of doubt it. It's one of the square states in the south (forgets which one).
As of right now, Canada has legalized gay marriage, so that's a comfort where I live. It was the last government who did it though, and the present government would prefer not to have it... but they can't really get rid of it once it's been granted, can they? I know that I would have a few things to say about that (would NOT be impressed).

Oh god, believe me, it's so horrible there. A mom was screaming at her son in half-Bengali, half-English across a hallway, asking him to put his buttons properly. WTF?
Well, now they're in a tight spot, hee. It would take miilions of years to undo the law now...*claps for canadians*
India....heh. No government would dare do it, or they'll be out of power, and the next government will remove it.

It's mostly a "you don't bother us, we won't bother you" thing with the cops, but we get a lot of protesters. And some of them are just kids, raised by bigots, too afraid to learn new things. It's really sad.
The United States was founded as a puritanical nation, and it's really sad how much closed-mindedness has persevered to this day. Especially about sex. Boy, this country has so many sex issues...
All we can do is lead by example, and make the small changes we can, trusting that the future will be brighter and more accepting for the next generation.

I second that. It's not just America but every country's prerogative to raise their kids right, and not many are doing a good job of it.
