Genealogy updates

So, it took a bit, but I figured out how to clean up my census citations. I think the multiple upgrades to FTM software (and not cleaning the citations up each time) is the root of my problem. I know how to fix them -- but it will require a lot of work. I will still have to re-do many of the searches. That is not a bad thing, given that in the past 10 years the quality of the images online have gotten better.

On another genealogy front, last fall I took part in a test of Ancestry's new DNA profiling. Basically, for a pittance (either $5 or $10) I got a DNA test. They are in their Beta test now and just released the results. Now, they admit it might be weird. And it was. Not at all what I expected. They give a balance of where your grouping comes from. I expected at 40% or so from the British Isles area, and then a mixture from the rest of Europe. Understand that I have a pretty good charting for basically 6 generations back (or further) and it is solid German/English/British Isles stuff. BUT. And here has always been the question mark. My paternal great-grandfather was adopted. (One of the things I always wanted my dad to do was get Y-chromosone tested to at least give us some answers, but it never happened).

So, what did I get? [Understand that they do give a disclaimer, and state it might be off until they can understnad patterns better). 90% Scandinavian, 7% Southern Europe (i.e. Spain/France/Italy/, and 3% other/unknown.

90% Scandinavian?!?!

Yeah. Not expected. I'll be contacting them (they ask you to do that if you get unexpected stuff).

They did come up with a 50% probable 4th cousin from their sample database.
