Hearts and love all that sappy stuff

Yesterday Mike and I both mentioned Neil deGrasse Tyson in conversations yesterday. Mike was in a conversation about sports figures as role models and said "The problem is everyone knows who Tiger Woods is, who the Mannings are, but who here can tell me who Brian Greene, Edward Witten, Neil deGrasse Tyson or Eric Demaine are?" Nobody knew.
I was talking about a lecture I saw with him as the guest speaker on tv with Mike the other day. He's one of Mike's favorite scientists, and he was talking about all sorts of things like asteroid 2004 MN4 which is supposed to crash in the Pacific on April 13, 2029 (which happens to be a Friday the 13th) and what effect that will have on the ocean.
One of Mike's co-workers did ask him who the people he mentioned were, and Mike explained, as well as saying "In other countries, scientists are superstars. We have some of the greatest minds in the world and their names aren't well known. It's depressing."
Later in the evening we discussed different states of matter, the ones past the basic 3. Energy and supercold states of matter and the theoretical states like superglass and supersolid. He told me it turned him on to hear me talk like that. I love that man of mine so much.
It's not that I know much at all about such things, but the fact we can talk about them and he finds it as interesting and worth reading about as I do. It's the fact he watches science shows and truly enjoys them with me.
