The Learning Curve

Random character willing to do seemingly anything to get their own way:
Either you (comply with my wishes) or I will (do something that you don't like that I have no vested interest in other wise and indeed can only be done right now)!

Random character that doesn't understand the difference between black mail and extortion)
That's black mail!

Me:
No, it fucking isn't that's extortion. Black mail is ongoing arrangement of payments of either money or services in exchange for keeping quiet about something the other party has done. Usually committed a crime. Extortion is the payment to keep an act from happening. While similar it isn't hard to differentiate! To make it easy: if you can admit to the act the blackmail ends. To get out of extortion you have to allow the other party to do what ever they hell they want. Telling on you versus hitting you. The only admittedly hazy bit is this- if they 'black mailer' is going to tell lies about you it's actually extortion: as in committing the act of spreading lies about you instead of telling everyone something you actually did.

Now! Pop quiz!
