Graduation Party Rundown :-)

Jun 11, 2007 10:02

Graduation party was yesterday. It was an awesome time. Lots of folks came including (in order of arrival) princesskara, sailormouse and Dave, spiffstress and Aaron, pallagia and tenner, cielosangre and Leah, winteredheart and Greg, mersidotes and ibentmyw00kie, quilynn, colossus716, Steve, queengalena and jonthebrit….and, it think that was everyone. Thanks to all that came…you made it fun for me!

The first few people arrived, and we headed down to the Flag Day parade. It was fun to watch. The best part for me was watching the marching bands, and seeing the wide variety in quality throughout the parade. The parade started with the Marine Corps band, which was awesome to watch. Some of the other bands were made up of elementary kids, and they were horrible, but really cute. :-) After the parade we waited for more people to arrive, and then played some Bocce. Kara and I won due to our awesome skillz. There were at least two rounds where we got two points. Still more people arrived, so we went to play kickball. I think that was really fun. We only played 3 innings due to rain starting, and my team won, 6-5. After kickball we headed back to my house and I started making dinner. I made Mambo Chicken with Mango Salsa, Bow ties with pesto, feta and tomatoes, Slow cooker Vegetarian Mediterranean Stew, Irish potato salad, and Strawberry Spinach Salad. We also made appetizers, which were highlighted with hummus from Al-Baraki, guacamole (with the secret ingredient), cheese brought by Meredith and John, Veggies brought by Megan and Dave, Cranberry walnut Chevre from the farmer’s market, stuffed grape leaves and a few other items. Oh, and I can’t forget to mention the huge cake from the Vanilla Bean! Folks from MTI will be enjoying the leftovers of that today. ;-) Everything came out great, but I was a little frazzled making it all (Thanks to Maggie and Cindy for helping out with the guac and salad dressing though). I realized this was the first time I hosted a party without help from a roommate or boyfriend, and it was a bit much. Before the guests arrived I was already exhausted, but I perked up when people arrived because I was so excited. I’ll have to figure out a way to scale stuff down next time, but I really enjoy hosting parties and making good food, so I shouldn’t complain.

I almost forgot to mention the awesome games of Apples to Apples and Drinking Jenga that were played with the people still there after dinner. It was quite the experience. ;-)

I also made a mixed CD for my guests….I figured since I talk about all these bands I love so much, I should make let people listen to them. I would enjoy making more CDs and sending them to people, so if you want one let me know (you may be getting one in the mail even if you don’t ask, if I think you would enjoy it). Here’s the list of songs for those interested

Way Down the Old Plank Road - The Mammals
Little Sadie - Crooked Still
1952 Vincent Black Lightening - Richard Thompson
I’ve Just Seen a Face - The Paperboys (Beatles Cover)
Scolding Wife - Great Big Sea
Queen of Quiet - Erin McKeown
Matty Groves - Fairport Convention
From Galway to Graceland - Richard Thompson
Seven Years - Red Molly
Darling Corey - Crooked Still
Sea of No Cares - Great Big Sea
Waste Some Time - The Paperboys
Chan Chan - The Mammals
Father William - The Mammals
Valerie - Richard Thompson
Let Down - Sometimes Why
You Were Right About Everything - Erin McKeown
Wind and Rain - Crooked Still

Although the title of the mix is pretty morbid, most of the songs aren’t. I was just listing the songs I would like on the CD, and I realized a lot of them were murder ballads. Then I realized that most murder ballads are also songs about love. So, those two themes became what I based the remainder of the CD on.

Anyway, thanks to those who came and celebrate my graduation with me! :-)
