Why Costuming Books Are Cool: a rambling by Lee, age 23 and Very Immature For Her Age, or so my father tells me anyway. However, it should be noted that my father does not use the word "immature" to signify the actual lexical meaning of "immature", but rather to signify any behavior which is displeasing to him.
Anyway, I was flipping through Cunnington's Dictionary of English Costume, which covers medieval through the late 19th century, and there's a neat list of obsolete color names in the back. Cool, huh?
Nothing is as cool as the discovery that Goose-Turd used to mean a kind of yellowish-green color, and Puke used to be a brownish color. Goose turds probably gave their name to Goose-Turd, but I think Puke might be a chicken-or-the-egg type scenario.
Also: Amphigory is cool because they sell makeup for pale people. Finally, the special needs of pale people are taken into account. Thank you, Aphrodite.
