101 Things in 1001 Days: How Am I Doing? (27 June - 27 July edition)

Jul 29, 2008 10:22

I'm surprisingly happy about being away from the Int0rbuttz. I did, nonetheless, write some entries, which are backdated. There is nothing of interest there, but go to town. You can pretend they are plastic Easter eggs, brightly colored and chock full of delicious stupid.

First of all--did a quick and dirty catch-up. Congrats to angeljuggalette on the new job (driving isn't that bad--you'll probably take to it better now that you're not a stupid teenager), pixelation on the iPhone get, and queen_lily_rose on the move, I love duokinneas, and if there's any other important stuff I must know about now, please to be telling me and/or linking me so I can look at it and respond appropriately. Oh, and anjala, I was going to ring you up and see if you survived the dentist, but it occurred to me that you might not be in any condition to talk, so I didn't. But I still hope you survived the dentist.

Also, it is mandatory that you visit tiye and read her incisive commentary on early Egyptology in the Age Of Schliemann (in those days, children, all we had was smash-n-grab archaeology and we had to walk uphill both ways in the scorching desert in order to get to the antiquities whilst carrying heavy loads of rocks and our entire native crew on top of that, and by God we were GRATEFUL for it). The grumpy Ra at the end of her Belzoni post really makes the whole thing for me.

Assuming you're on the proverbial flist, you can see the original list here, now with new changes and updates! :D

+ I haven't been really good on the diet/exercise/lifestyle modification/weight loss bandwagon. In retrospect, going gung-ho about EVERYTHING ALL AT ONCE OMG was a bad idea; I do better with gradual changes. Live and learn, I guess, though my nature is to declare myself A MORAL FAILURE OMG.
+ #16 - We had Tex-Mex (a.k.a. seven-layer dip) around the Fourth. It's not free of animal products--it contains sour cream and cheese--but is meatless.
+ #26 - I'm reasonably sure I've been eating breakfast more often than this, but I haven't been keeping a very precise record. Bad Lee. Bad.
+ #28 - I've been horrible about brushing the cat, but she is much softer (and happier) after she's brushed.
+ A lot of these would be infinitely easier if I had any money.
+ #38 - The Int0rbuttz hiatus is not helping on the IM front, but eventually I'll be okay about coming back.
+ #43 - In progress, one hopes.
+ #44 - In progress. I work like a snail, I swear.
+ #58 - I have a lot of trouble doing this kind of thing without falling asleep. There is, however, a Buddhist sangha in town, and I may start going to sit with them. It's open to the public after all.
+ #59 - In progress, if I get off my ass and go to the planning meeting tonight.
+ #64 - Well, I'm not an utter failure. Stuff I read in the past month or so: The Cloud Sketcher (Richard Rayner), Warrior Marks (Alice Walker and Pratibha Parmar), A Witch in the Family (Stephen Hawley Martin), In the Heart of the Sea (Nathaniel Philbrick), The Lost German Slave Girl (John Bailey), Domina (Paul Doherty), and Ovid (David Wishart).
+ #65 - GodDAMN, I'm lazy.
+ #68 - We were at the Bonefish Grill for my birthday, and we went to the County Seat in Sullivan over the weekend. I've eaten at both places before, but what the hell.
+ #69 - Finances make this difficult. On the plus side, I have seen Molière, which was good.
+ #70 - A bunch of things are conspiring to make me think that I'm supposed to be in Bloomington.
+ #85 - I have this thing where it's difficult for me to make effective to-do lists. Either I put too much on there and then kick myself for not finishing it in the course of 24 hours, despite the fact that very few human beings could, or I don't put enough on.
+ #86 - Yeah, haven't been that great here either.
+ #87 - WIN
+ #93 - Well, at least I'm doing something right.
+ #100 - It wasn't FAAAAABULOUS, but it didn't suck ass. It was okay, and given my track record with birthdays, that's really doing pretty well.

I have been doinking about with some family history stuff and have noticed that apparently I have quite distant relatives (in the sense that we descend from a common ancestor in the 17th or 18th century) who are LDS (Mormons, you lot), judging by the records they've thoughtfully put on WorldConnect. There is a somewhat baffling (to me, okay) tag attached to some of them, and I know at least a couple of y'all are LDS. Would any of y'all mind explaining to me what baptism for the dead is and why it is believed to be necessary? Is it actual doctrine or is it more of a cultural phenomenon?

(I'm not taking the piss here. I really would like to know.)

Also, because I meant to bring this up before I went away and then forgot: pleasureblossom and strawberryjulia, would either of you mind if I dropped your old journals from my flist (assuming they're not being used anymore)? Nothing personal, just keeps me from getting horrendously confused. There is no obligation to drop me back if you're feeling lazy. :D

You may see me around intermittently for the next week or so since a bunch of you were born around late July/early August, but for the most part I'm planning to return to my regularly scheduled Outer Darkness.
