Dear Lee: Off Duff. Fax Out Work. Read. Write. RP.

May 21, 2007 18:14

This post is pre-recorded for your convenience, and has been cobbled together from Friday and also from stuff that happened today. Thus, it is the Post That Ate Suburbia and contains all kinds of boring minutiae about my boring life.

Thanks, anjala, for calling and trying to heal my title!pain. ♥ I'm over it now, but my God, I was wound up after I got home that night. Teh m0mmy was all set to chatter at me before I had to tell her I was in a bad mood, so that would be a bad idea. @_@;

momo, I have to let you go. The community is now bahleeted, which I wasn't expecting. Dammit, I was looking forward to writing those, too. I mean, I was writing the first one, of course.

Also, calanthe_ is totally hot despite the "OMGWTF I'M SO HIGH LOL :D" vibe in those pics.

I did get ahold of the IU libraries on Friday and explained what happened. They noted my account "user claims returned" so I won't be liable for the fines, and the person who recalled one of the supposedly overdue books will have to request it via ILL. (Probably faculty or a grad student, and I hate that they won't be able to get it if the library can't find it, but there's nothing I can do about it.) Still, not happy. I explained that I had in fact physically (and not by mail) returned the books to the circulation desk at the library from which I checked them out, on the day they were due, to which the librarian said, "Well, then the ball is in our court now, and we need to find them." This was reassuring, even if, as was explained to me, they won't contact me to tell me whether or when they found the books. I gave the house and car a once-over (these were the only two places where they would have been), but they are not there, which suggests to me that I did in fact return them. (I returned two others and renewed a third, and nothing appears to have gone wrong there.)

Also: things from forgottensanity arrived over the weekend, so I am sitting very hard on my hands. I will have to remember to pack the appropriate clues for the days I'm gone next week.

In other weekend news, there was coffee and a brief war council with Joy, followed by longingly caressing books I can't afford with my burning, myopic eyes. If my check comes this week, I have given myself permission to buy the stuff that was marked down. Saturday night, Mom and I grabbed dinner and then went to see Shrek the Third, which did not disappoint (we've been running around the house yelling, "Onwards, Chauncey!" for the past few days).

Also also, things from ukekenshin arrived today. Judging by a seahorse's facial expression, she did not particularly enjoy sitting for her senior picture. (I didn't have senior pictures taken, so I don't know whether they are/are not a pain in the ass. Why yes I AM an underachiever. Besides, it was only high school, not anything that mattered in the long run.) I am sorry I will not be in Idaho for your graduation, princess, but that is the day I return to work and I don't have the money anyway. Perhaps I will be financially stable by the time you get out of college.

Finally, in case anybody didn't know, I'm on vacation next week, and by vacation I mean "not in the state of Indiana". If you need anything, feel free to wait, or to ask someone else.

If anybody did NOT get their username in this LJ post and would like for it to be there, hop on the bandwagon by leaving a comment.

[EDIT: Checked the catalogue online. They're reshelving Male Colors, which implies that it was returned and logged back in properly given that I had the only copy at that library, but no word on Hypatia yet.]

[EDIT to the EDIT, while I'm fagging on IUCat: Dear Lee, Learn French, as in "properly learn it with lessons and pronunciations and everything, as opposed to eking it out with a dictionary and going HEE HEE DURHHH I SPY W/MY LITTLE EYE A LATIN ROOT". Read Balzac. Never rely on florid nineteenth-century translations again! No love, and scant tolerance, Lee.]

vacation!, cat, writing, joy, books, anjie, movies, teh m0md0rk, taking care of business, language, raien, talyn, ashley, life, weekend
