I can vouch for Zelly (a.k.a. Jessalyn, if we want to use real names here to make it more professional) and her good character and behavior. Other than you, I can't imagine having a site with anybody else, either out of their disinterest or out of wanting nothing to do with someone helping me run a site that would be paid for and actually shown to the public. However, there are two possible sites in progress: if I'm alone, it's just my fics and my blah de blah; if I'm with her, it's an archive for us plus whoever we invite, and that won't work out.
And before it becomes an explosion of fighting (again), I never wanted you to get the idea that I'm trying to coerce you into letting me host a massive site on your paycheck. If Zelly and I can't get our shit together and host our own site within a month, I'll go it myself till we can build the archive and pay hosting via Yahoo! or another reasonable hosting company.
She and I have talked, and she doesn't want to take up your space anymore than I do. She also says that she was "psychic," because she didn't think that in the long-term, any hosting agreement would work out, with you or with anyone. Zelly's wiser than I am.
But yeah.
We'll see how she and I and our Pink Gardenia are planted and whether it grows, and if not, I'll probably try to get into talks again. Right now, though, I don't know where we are going and what I'm getting myself into, other than that I want a big project that takes up stupid amounts of time.
Thank you very much, though, darling, for the kind offer and your opennness and your generosity. That you trust me enough to let me on your space, even with somebody else on the ticket, makes my heart squee. **squees aloud**
No, I didn't think you were trying to launch your site on my dime. I just didn't know whether it was a personal archive for the two of you or whether it was going to be user-driven. My objection to a large archive is NOT Zelly's involvement or the fact that it is an archive, but rather the following: a.) These things have a way of getting out of hand very quickly, as Zelly so astutely observed. b.) My hosting package gives me a wide variety of scripts, but if memory serves, none of them are the kind of thing you'd need to manage an archive. c.) I find it a little problematic because I can't vouch for the content as well, if you take my meaning. I'm not saying y'all have bad taste, it just...I don't know. Taste is subjective.
You are welcome to bring your fics and blah de blah to XFO any time you want. Just say the word. ♥ I won't even make you put up a banner ad or anything.
