Something in the way she moves
She doesn't hesitate to reach for him. Her fingers unfurl in her need to touch him, to settle her hand softly against his cheek. He loves her even more for it, her need to be so tactile with him.
But it breaks his hearts too.
He can't stand to tell her that he's just an image, just a collection of light bouncing off of a prism. Can't bear to see the look in her eyes when he lets her down, dashes her hopes for a happy reunion.
He doesn't want to leave her, not here, not like this.

Somewhere in her smile she knows
Her mere presence here lights up the darkness in this war-torn street around them, and in his mind, as he feels the tingle of his regeneration coming on fast. He never thought he'd see her again, never imagined he'd get the chance to finish the words that he'd waited too long to say in the first place.
But the universe has its own plans and he can feel it. Everything he never told her was slipping through his fingers, shattering at her feet.
She shouldn't have to go through this, not now, not after they've just found one another again.

He fights his way back to her, clawing his way through the void and all the stupid mistakes he's ever made. He let her down, did the one thing he swore to her he'd never do: chose her path for her.
He has to fix that. Because, despite all the unknowns, all the uncertainties as to whether she'd even want him back, he needs her, can't keep going on without her. Besides, he owes her. She'd found her way home, to him, and he, stupid fool that he was, sent her away again.
It was his turn to find her.

He's known life with her, and life without her, seen the world light up when she's there and descend into darkness when she's not. He never, not in a million years, expected her, but, then again, does anyone ever really expect love?
It takes no time at all for her to fall into his arms, and he knows in that moment, that he's finally done something right. But there's still one more thing he needs to do, one more mistake he needs to clear up.
The words burn their way through his thoughts. He opens his mouth to tell her, and is stopped short by her finger pressed softly to his lips.
"Quite right, too," she whispers.
