Merry Christmas

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL

Or as was once said today is Dies Natalis Solis Invicti (the birthday of the unconquered sun). Or as we atheists say, Happy Birthday to Isaac Newton.

A very interesting day. I went to a wonderful brunch at my friends apartment and knowing that they lived close to a movie theater, yesterday I bought a ticket to go see "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and off I went after the meal. "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is a good SW movie right up there with "A New Hope" and "The Empire Strikes Back" but...

...I had to sit through over 20 minutes worth of trailers for other upcoming movies like "The 5th Wave", "Captain America: Civil War", "Independence Day: Resurgence", "Star Trek Beyond", “Kung Fu Panda 3" and others. These are action movies full of mindless acts of senseless violence and after being deluged with all that I could barely watch the clashes in the SW movie. There is so much violence these days in RL I find I can no longer tolerate watching fictional brutality.

While watching the SW movie and seeing the Millennium Falcon fly through the desert and crashed ships, snowy mountains and forests it confirmed why J. J. Abrams thought it was ok to have the Enterprise submerged in an ocean in "Star Trek Into Darkness". However SW is space fantasy while ST is supposed to have roots in science and is part of our possible future yet he so loved SW that he star warred "Star Trek" which is why I so dislike the reboot movies (another bit of star warring was when Chekov said it would take only 3 minutes to go from Earth to Vulcan! - flying around that far away galaxy also takes mere minutes). Roddenberry is definitely spinning in his orbit over what has been done to his ST.

star trek, star wars
