Oh dear I just found out that Suzette Haden Elgin aka ozarque has passed on after several years of a form of dementia. Requiescat in pace wonderful writer who once wrote this:
I know what that's like. The family I visit during my b'day bash has a mother (my first cousin once removed) who has dementia and her care falls on her youngest daughter as she's the one who lives a few blocks away and is the only one who can drive. It's soo sad to see her deteriorate and know there is no hope for a cure...at least for now *sigh*
Suzette began to go downhill some time after the death of one of her sons and I can't help thinking it triggered something.
Sorry but there's really nothing revealing about her dementia on her blog; in fact one of the early signs of her problem was that she stopped blogging. Her last post was way back in 2011.
It is sad. Nowadays whenever I forget a word I want to use I become worried that I'm on the road to dementia but supposedly it's just something that comes with age *sigh*
It's sad. I've only seen a few obits about her online so I have little idea who her family is beyond her husband George Elgin (I know a son passed on a few years before her). Hope they are all doing well.
