I met my friend the art expert at the entrance to the Sixty-Ninth Regiment Armory so we could visit the
Downtown Fair dedicated to modern and contemporary art. We wandered through the galleries for an hour or so; he knew many of the artists but was really only impressed by one. I thought most of the art was pretty blah though I did end up liking a painting by Larry Poons and two others by Ysabel LeMay (you can see her "The Mentors" on the Fair's homepage). Afterwards we walked in the drizzle to the Moonstruck Diner where we ate a late lunch/early dinner. I had the Penne A La Vodka with a lemonade. Because it had rained hard while we were eating we lingered after we finished our meal and I had a hot chocolate. We then walked to MoMath aka the Museum of Mathematics to see
Compounding Visions featuring the art of Trevor and Ryan Oakes. I wasn't too impressed but afterwards we went across the street to Madison Square Park and sat while my friend tried to explain what they were trying to accomplish and he almost succeeded in making me understand. He's so knowledgeable and I'm one of those annoying people who know what I like without knowing if what I like is good art (to be honest I like more of the art on Etsy than what I saw today *sigh*). All in all I enjoyed the day because it certainly was different than my usual Saturdays.
