I think one of the biggest reasons why I get hung up with staying consistent with social media is because I'm not clear enough on WHY I'm doing it for my business and what the purpose of it is.
On the one hand, I know that I want to use social media to grow my business. That's the logical answer that I can recite backwards and forwards. But I think it's time to coach myself and get into the deeper layers of that.
I know that I want to build a business as a life coach. I've done the work for that, and I've got journal entries to remind me of all of that. Work from home, help people feel good, it's a talent and a strength that I have, I know I can make a difference, I love working with people one on one, all the things.
Great. So why social media? While I haven't chosen any one particular strategy, and I have felt like my consistency is all over the board, the one big thing that HAS been consistent is that I know I want to use social media, specifically Facebook and Instagram. Facebook for sure, Instagram is like.... well, why not? Super easy to cross-post.
But why social media? Why have I chosen to use social media as opposed to cold calling, Google Ads, SEO, Pinterest, YouTube, all those other methods? Why not run an ad in the Alibi like I did with massage? Let's unpack...
- Social media allows me to reach a global or even national audience. The Alibi definitely doesn't do that! 😂
- Why social media over Google Ads? - I have no experience there, and I have no idea what that would even look like. How much? How long? Does that also involve SEO? So many questions!
- Pinterest? - When I think of Pinterest, I think of blogs, and I'm not doing that at the moment. It also brings up a lot of the same questions as Google Ads. I have no experience there, so I'd be starting from scratch.
- YouTube - I'd have to be on camera, for starters, and if it's YouTube versus Podcasting, podcasting takes the cake.
- So why continue with social media and not with the podcast? - Facebook and Instagram are easier for me to do. I'm on them already, I know the rules, and I don't *always* have to be on camera. There's also various modalities that I can use: long-form posts, short-form posts, pictures only, live video, Reels, Messenger.
- I don't have to develop an audience from Zero on social media the way that I do with a podcast.
- The podcast seems to involve so much time editing, and I'm finding that the space I'm in isn't great for sound quality. It could be that Descript is something worth trying, and I think I will give the free version a try at some point.
- So why not pivot into Descript right now? - That's another thing that I would have to learn. I know most of what to do on Facebook, and I'm comfortable with most of the modalities.
- Working with social media and using that to grow my business meets me where I'm at right now, and I can really start seeing growth and momentum. I don't have to build a runway.
- When I want to use ads on FB and IG, I can, and when I don't want to, I don't have to. I haven't figured out a way to do that with podcasting, and it's also not 100% dependent on ads.
- Does SEO have a space in my pie at this point? - I don't think so. First, listening to my intuition, the answer is not right now. It would be another thing to learn. Secondly, my website doesn't have as big of a slice of my pie, so putting effort into getting more traffic isn't in alignment.
- I need to remember that I don't need to post every. single. day. BUT I do need to post something regularly. With that being the case, I think I need to get in touch with my creative flow.
- I know I do well with coming up with stuff in the moment when I'm inspired. One thing that I can do to help myself is really take advantage of those times when they happen. Do the word vomit and get it all out while it's at the surface. I can edit later and schedule and all the things, but for the moment at least, I can really tune in when I'm inspired to be creative.
- Like right now, if I'm inspired to do a series of Reels on why women are worth it, I can just record them and harness the inspiration instead of blocking a time later to do it. Or at the very least, I can write out the inspired thoughts now.
- I like being on social media. Let's just be honest. If there was a way to grow my business doing something I already like... this is it!
- When I scale back and just focus on social media, that seems totally doable. Going Live falls under social as opposed to podcasting being an entirely separate thing.
