I guess a few people know by now. But yes. I do not play guitar in Veil of Maya anymore. Well, I guess I technically do, because there are three upcoming shows that I'm playing. I decided to leave due to "musical differences," for the most part. And yes, it was because of musical differences. Anyone who has paid attention to the band close enough has noticed a progression in the songs toward a technical metal/death metal sound, and while I love listening to that kind of music, I never wanted to be in a technical death metal band, so I decided it was time to pursue something else. Nobody hates anybody else or anything like that, it just wasn't possible for me to continue to play music that I knew I wouldn't want to be playing.
The guys in VOM are the first group of people that I'd ever been in a real band with. I was able to grow a lot as a musician from being in the band, and I gained a lot of experience in both the musical and business aspects of being a musician. I guess it sucks to quit a band that you helped start, but it's not the end of the world. They are going to continue with what they're doing, and I'm going to continue with what I want to do.
My last three shows with the band are all within a week of each other. Come check shit out if you can, or care to.
