I agree with you. The only problem I have with Obama is that he doesn't (or can't) go far enough. He's not THAT liberal, and I guess I'm pretty liberal. However, if he were allowed to do things as he wanted and not blocked at every turn, I think I'd be pretty happy. I'd be happier with someone more like your prime minister, however.
I think this whole election (as you said already) just highlights what's wrong with America. The election is SUCH an issue. Everyone hates it, hates the ads. People get so upset at each other, and then it's over, and one "side" is left morose. I guess I'd be pretty sad if Romney had won, but it's hard for me to empathize. I'm not THAT happy, really (see first paragraph).
I think the Australian system works better as far as health care. I wish we would take a look around and learn from other countries. That's the most depressing thing to me, how unique the US is, and how that uniqueness is due mostly to ignorance and a deep, pathetic terror of change.
I am not a happy US citizen, for totally different reasons than those who want to secede. I don't think anyone will take the secession ideas very seriously. As you say, it's probably a bad plan. Hey, maybe Texas could join Mexico? Oh, wait--they hate Mexicans, too.
I would hate to be a non-conservative in Texas. That must be pretty hellish.
Anyway, going back more to the theme of your entry, I have two people at work who bitch and bitch about the election, still. I remember one of them (female) complaining that she was tired of people making political posts on facebook and that she didn't want to be beaten over the head with their choices. Okay, fine. But now that the election is over, I have to hear her say ALMOST DAILY something about how upset she is about Obama, or how she hates Obama, how she wish someone else had been given a chance to try changing (!!) things in the US.
I just don't see the US ever coming together, getting along, or making things work. I have no idea what will happen. It's sort of exciting, really, because I can't envision any kind of decent solution. There must be one somewhere, though.
