Smooth Criminal. It was released when I was a kid, and I thought Michael Jackson's dancing was so damn cool. I was at work when people started getting text messages from friends and family, saying he had died. I grabbed the phone to call home, to tell them to check up on it. Twenty minutes later, my mother called back to tell us it was true. All night long, everyone was talking about him. Some where talking about the accusations against him, and whether or not they believed them. Mostly, though, everyone wanted to talk about his music. It's really quite a shock, he was only four years older than my mother. She told me she's watched Michael Jackson from the time they were both kids, and it seems strange now to think of him gone. For all the craziness, all the bullshit, all the living in fantasy land that seems to have permeated his life for years upon years now, Michael Jackson was an icon because he was truly talented. And it's sad to see that talent gone away.
