Okay CLEARLY I should leave home more often. So yesterday morning, before I left for Texas, I put together some taco soup in the crock pot so DH will have something to eat. He remembered to put it away last night before bed, actually did the dishes (with me not around to ask him to), and this morning, the man who begs me to make his lunch every morning, actually put some in a tupperware container to take to work AND remembered chips, cheese (which he'd have had to grate himself) and sour cream. AND last night he cleaned the bathroom. That man can actually function without me. Who knew?
So mom and I are going to clean the house from top to bottom today. My uncle works 2 jobs and doens't do as much as he should in the way of cleaning. My grandmother is on a walker and can't do much more than wipe down counters. So we figure that's a good gift (and keeps us busy and less likely to snipe). There's no Christmas tree up. When I proposed we put one up, Mom said "But then [your uncle] will have to take it back down." This from the woman who also has no tree. I apparently come from a family of scrooges.
No tree isn't an option in my house. No tree is redolent of the WORST CHRISTMAS EVER the year my dad left before my folks got divorced and mom didn't put up a tree and we had a baby Norfolk pine that was so puny it wouldn't hold a single ornament. Worse than the Charlie Brown Tree. Does this have something to do with my tendency to overdecorate every tree and get a tree that's usually too big for my space? You betcha. SOMEDAY we're going to have a house with 10 foot ceilings to allow for even BIGGER trees.
