I've been spending a lot of time in my studio lately, not so much trying to write new stuff but to increase my understanding of my equipment and my method. Unintentionally, I've been focusing a lot of attention on drums. I've always spent a lot of time on drum programming, probably more than on anything else, but recently I've been re-examining how I process sounds. There's nothing really revolutionary to it, but I recently got a massive batch of new drum samples - all single multi-sampled hits - for Reason. I can either use the multiple samples as a NN-XT patch or single shots in ReDrum. I've been playing around with retuning the drums and running an auxillary out through the Scream unit to give it a bit of dirt, not much but enough to muddy things up a bit. I'm still not overly confident in my approach to compression but I'm getting better at it.

I really love Reason. I can't stand its sequencer so I slave it to something else, but as soft synth rack it's awesome. It's sooooo flexible!!!
