Odd day
I almost didn't go to work today cause i wasn't feeling to well but i thought to myself - eh its friday it won't be too busy i might get some work done.
Im really glad i went now.
The morning was pretty normal. Had morning tea with Alexis and the crew watched a bit of the ashes everything was going well.
Around lunch time i decide to get rid of some old servers that weren't being used anymore. Being the dilligent worker that i am i phone around and asked people in the know if it was ok to get rid of them. They all said yes.
So i turn them off and remove them from the racks and was just about to format the disks when my boss rings up and says - Hey glen it turns out that server is still being used by one of our mapping applications that is part of the core business. Anywhoo i ended up skipping lunch to try and get this thing back online. Fortunately i didnt wipe the disks otherwise shit would have definately hit the fan.
My day got a lot more boring the heaps more interesting.
Boring part was sitting in a meeting for about an hour. Afterwards i thought i might take an early mark as i skipped lunch. So i went to my desk packed up my things and the fire alarm goes off. So we all wander around for a little while wondering what was going on. Then the server room fire alarm goes off as well. That never happens.
About 10 seconds after the server alarm goes off. Whoosh. Our server room fire killing system went ape and dumped its entire load of chemicals in about 1 second to put out any potential fire. In training they tell you how effective this system is but you never really realise till your standing right next to the door when its going off and you wonder if the rooms about to burst. It shook the whole building and scared the crap out of me. The doors to the room pushed outwards and white stuff was seeping from the top and the bottom of the floor. The stuff it uses to put out the fire is really expensie like $100,000 dollars expensive.
There was no fire.
Weekend plans consist of cricket beer and more cricket and beer. Maybe movies and dinner with Alexis saturday night.
