More Love

The last of the love meme.

For trowicia Minerva McGonagall

McGonagall is seriously the best teacher at Hogwarts. She's as tough as old boots, strict and cutting, but is a complete softy underneath the imposing exterior. Minerva is a woman of principle and passion, who stands up for her students and the things that she believes in with fiercesome determination.

Best of all, Minerva is funny. This woman has some of the best one-liners in the entire series. A brief round-up:

'It unscrews the other way.'

Really, Severus,' said Professor McGonagall sharply. 'I see no reason to stop the boy playing Quidditch. This cat wasn't hit over the head with a broomstick.'

'You look in excellent health to me, Potter, so you will excuse me if I don't let you off homework today. I assure you that if you do die, you need not hand it in.'

'Tripe, Sybill?'

'Well, usually when a person shakes their head,' said McGonagall coldly, 'they mean "no". So unless Miss Edgecombe is using a form of sign-language as yet unknown to humans -'

'May I offer you a cough drop, Dolores?''

McGonagall pwns all.

For midnitemaraud_r Captain Jack

Captain Jack Harkness is a pansexual renegade ex-Time Agent and a space-travelling confidence trickster from the 51st Century. What's not to like?

Jack is funny, flirty and by way of being something of a space-whore. He's got style, and repeatedly faces-down death with a witty remark and suave acceptance. He's also kind of lame at times, what with the whole 'Aha, I have planted a highly dangerous alien warship in the middle of London during the Blitz...except it's just an old ambulance...oh, it's full of nanogenes. Oops.'

Jack drinks cockatails. He dances. He kisses Rose and the Doctor. He helps save the world. He'll be back with his own series, Torchwood, and ooh, I can't wait.

For lyras - Neville Longbottom.

Neville, bless him, is the great unsung hero of Gryffindor. An awkward, unconfident boy, a bit chubby, and of average academic ability. Most of Neville's family appear to regard him as a bit useless and he is bullied mercilessly by Snape, with a number of Slytherin students appearing to follow their Head of House's lead. Aside from Hermione, none of the other Gryffindors appear to have a huge amount of time for Neville.

And yet, Neville is awesome. He bears the trauma of his own parents not being able to recognise him with stoic dignity, attains fair grades despite his teachers' general lack of enthusiasm, and his staunchly loyal to his friends. Neville fights with fearsome determination during the battle at the DoM and is one of only two DA members to turn up and fight during HBP. Neville is braver than perhaps anyone else, because he does get scared but does it anyway. That's real courage for you.

Plus, Neivlle was the first boy in Gryffindor to get a date for the Yule Ball. What a champ.

For darth_cabal - Raven Sable

Raven Sable, aka Famine, is slim, black-hearded, bearded and the second coolest Horseperson of the Apocalypse. (After War, naturally.) Sable is a parody of the conflicting modern obsessions with dieting and junk food. He's responsible for CHOWTMTM is complimented by MEALSTM, high-fat, high-sugar fast food that, if you eat enough of it, makes you a) get very fat and b) die of malnutrition.

Famine rides a motorcyle, describing himself and his compatriots as 'old firm' Hell's Angels. He dresses in black, he employs Elvis Presley to flip burgers. He never loses his cool.

For pink_faerie81 - Stubby Boardman

Oh, Stubby, how I love him so! *swoons*

Canon!Stubby is barely-there, a mere excuse for a passing joke, so the Stubby I know and love is more or less a product of my own imagination. That, in itself, is ridiculously fun for me.

Stubby is the rock star we all swooned over in our teens, the person we'd never met who really understood us, the one who articulated every emotional, philosophical and political belief we never even knew we had until he said them. Stubby rebels so we don't have to, he's the voice of a generation, dangerous-but-not-to-us, and the first love who'll never break our hearts.

Little wonder that Doris mistook Stubby for Sirius: Stubby's the only man who's a real match for him. ♥

stubby boardman, good omens, doctor who, neville longbottom
