On my previous MLOTD
(here), since I thought some might get a kick out of it.
Petra, Judas Kiss, on More Power To Ya (1982). This would be when I was 11.
It was, as I said, the song (and album) that started my metal obsession. Petra, for those who may not have heard, were basically the first Christian hard rock band of any note. The song Judas Kiss was AFAIK the first Christian album to contain backmasking as well (go look it up, digi-kiddies). The backwards message was "why you looking for the devil when you should be looking for the Lord?"
According to the chart that my Christian bookstore had up on the wall in their music section (and that I sold later when I worked in the Christian Light Bookstore in Frederick in high school), their entry was something like:
If your friend listens to:Try to get them to listen to:Styx, BostonPetraIron Maiden, Black SabbathRez Band
I was afraid of listening to Rez Band for a number of years for that comparision, as Maiden and Sabbath were clearly pure evil. This was of course, before my unfortunate yellow and black stryped phase, which was followed by my Christian Death Metal phase. Oh yes, it's out there. I thought I'd use a Vengeance song (Beheaded) for an MLOTD, but it's simply not possible anybody would know it, so I'll put it here. It's about being a martyr in the Tribulation (post-Rapture hell on earth), I believe:
Scream into their face:
I WANT TO BE BEHEADED!!!
I want: HEAD CHOPPED OFF!!!
You'll see: BODY ROT!!!
And then: REIGN WITH CHRIST!!!
And then: YOU FRY!!!
Ain't it awesome? It was at this point in my musical & spiritual path that I discovered Metallica, Aerosmith, KISS, Alice Cooper, and Slayer. And you all know the rest.
Have a nice day!
