The fresh clean bedding doesn't smell of Minerva anymore, which makes Severus feel all poignant for a moment ( Read more... )

Severus has by now gutted several onions, and is moving on to flaying tomatoes. There is a visceral satisfaction - literally - in watching the juices ooze onto the chopping board.

Then he starts to slice the steak. Thin slivers, very precise knife work.

~Draco walks over slowly, not wanting to startle the other man~

Um... that's pretty impressive knife work, Severus.

Hmmm thank you Draco, Severus says absently, concentrating very hard on the angle.

He finishes, and begins laying out the ingredients on a hot frying pan.

If you think you've mastered the art of toast and put a couple of slices on apiece we can have steak sandwiches.....

~Draco grins~

Good idea. And I think I'm a Toast Master now, so I'll get on that.

And then we can have a little chat about your future.

I'm sure I'm supposed to do something fatherly at this point and take an interest.

Or something.

And I'll even promise to put the knives down, if you'd like.

~chuckles as he lays some bread on the pan~

Yeah, I think I'd prefer you put the knives down.

Severus lays the knives carefully down, and turns his attention to the food sizzling in the pan

So, what have you and Pansy decided to do once you leave? I'm fairly sure I should be asking you what you want to do for a living, you know, a career.....

What are you going to do to keep Miss Parkinson in the style to which she is accustomed, and without which you can guarantee she will be bending your ear on a regular basis.

Unless of course, Pansy is going to be the breadwinner whilst you stay at home and do the housework.

~Draco is silent for a time, thinking. He pulls the toast out and then leans against the counter.~

Well. There are a few options, if Mum wasn't able to work something out with Lucius' money. Quidditch... but I'm not really interested in that. Maybe a professorship somewhere - my NEWTs weren't bad, you know. But, of course, I hope it won't come to that. I'm not really... I don't really know what I'd be good at. I never had to think about it before.

~smirks~

But I do know I wouldn't be good at staying at home and doing housework.

Good god, I certainly don't recommend teaching. The children are hell, your colleagues are bastards, and you don't get any respect.

And the pay is frankly shite.

Something in the Ministry? They seem to be quite lazy bastards there, it should suit you down to the ground.

Of course there is always the interesting question of 12 Grimmauld Place. Who does it belong to. I should think your mother has a strong claim as a Black.

~Draco's eyebrow lifts~

I hadn't thought about Grimmauld Place... you're right, you know. She's the oldest living Black, it should go to her, shouldn't it?

~He frowns in thought~

The Ministry would be a good idea.

shaggablesnape July 12 2004, 17:47:29 UTC
Probably. If we can prove Black is dead, and if he was so obliging as to die without a Will. He could have left it to Potter you know.

Severus stirs the steak.

Yes, I was thinking maybe something in Muggle Liaison would be perfect for you.

~Draco's breath catches and he begins to cough~
WHAT? Mug- oh. You're having me on, aren't you?

~As his breathing evens out, his eyes narrow~

A will is easily taken care of, you know, Severus. Potter has plenty of money that those parents of his left him... he's not hurting.

~smirks~

But... I bet he's not very happy at the way it all turned out. Savior of the Wizarding World and all that.

~laughs rudely~

Severus smirks

Not-so-gullible-Draco today then?

Severus begins escorting the ingredients onto a plate.

Yes. Potter must be really rather peeved with Neville. He was always a whiner.

Severus smirks even wider.
