I absolutely fell in love with this comic when I read it this past fall. I like it for many of the reasons that you mention; the linework, the pacing (especially in the story with the soccer player), and of course Sexy Voice herself. What I really love is just how he depicts the city and living in it. This is a book where I really feel that the setting is as important to the story as anything else. I can't imagine this book taking place anywhere but Tokyo. I really wish that Kuroda would go back and finish it as the ending leaves me wanting more.

I heard some good stuff about this but hadn't picked it up, because of being poor and it having a weird name. The art is endearingly unpolished.

"An Asian man in a neck tie is never cool"? Had I been drinking milk, it would have squirted out of my nose.

This one hasn't been published in France yet, but we have other Io Kouroda mangas, such as the "Eggplants stories" or "Clan of the Tengus"...

Another prominent indie/underground manga author is Tayio Matsumoto ("Ping-Pong", "Number 5", "Blue Spring"...) Is he traslated into english too ?

As a matter of fact, yes! Viz has published Black and White, No. 5, and Blue Spring. I may do one of his manga in a future installment.

"Black and White" ? That's "Tekkonkonkurito", right ? In France they call it "Amer Béton" (faithfull translation from the original title : "Bitter Concrete")

Ping-pong is really amazing : the only sport manga i've ever read (without knowing shit about said sport). I heard they made a movie out of it in Japan

The PING PONG movie is *incredible* -- well worth seeking out.

Nifty! It's good to see manga that has a less polished look.
