Three weeks ago, I wrote about how intense my current course is. I've gotten a little side-tracked with some other things, but I can finally report that I finished everything I planned to do three weekends ago.
Of course, I did plenty of other things in the meantime, like spend the better part of the past two weekends visiting my family in Mississauga. I got up at 4:45am to watch the Royal Wedding (I'm not a morning person, but it was completely worth it). I voted in my federal election, which turned out a completely insane result: a Conservative majority with (socialist) NDP minority - what? Anyway, this result was primarily due to the complete abandonment of the separatist BQ by Quebec voters, who instead voted in favour of NDP candidates - most of whom have zero political experience, and in fact several who are still university students and are now earning about $150,000 in their first ever full-time job - yikes! It should be an interesting four years in Ottawa, and let's hope that when we get to the end of it, we still recognize our country.
Other things I worked on... well, there was work. There was a second assignment, which was actually not nearly as difficult as some second assignment's I've done in other courses (hooray). And I'm now working along into the third assignment.
I also managed to visit with a friend who I haven't seen in a couple of years. We met as roommates back in 2006, and then she followed me down to Boston. She lives in California at the moment, but is trying to get back to the east coast. I'm trying to persuade her that Toronto has gotten a whole lot better since 2007. We'll see how it goes. By the way, if you haven't been to Oliver & Bonacini cafe (O&B Canteen) at the TIFF Bell Lightbox yet, you should. I had a fantastic quinoa salad with dried fruits and nuts, with chickpea fritters. It was yum, and for Toronto, affordable for an upscale eatery - only $20 with tax and tip.
Here is the
menu, if you would like to peruse it and decide what you will have when we go. ;)
