Whitewashing in Wonder Woman

Jun 10, 2017 03:25

So, lots of people are writing about Wonder Woman -- as they should be, because it's a great movie with lots of angles. But one that I haven't seen tackled is the whitewashing of the villain Doctor Poison. In the comics, Doctor Poison was Japanese (a princess in the Japanese Imperial Family, in fact), but in the movie she's European, played by Spanish actress Elena Anaya. So, why hasn't there been widespread condemnation of this change? Is it possible that no one cares enough about the good doctor to take action?

Here a pic of #ElenaAnaya, just for reference...
