I heard the sad news today. That homeless guy who always sits in that chair near the vending machines at the south entrance of the SUB passed away on February 6 or 7th.
http://ubyssey.ca/news/man-found-dead-at-university-village662/ I'm so sad to hear him pass away, I simply can't believe it. I never talked to him but I always see him sitting down reading a newspaper or a book, minding his own business, never talking to anyone. He never talked, begged for money or food, he just sat there and minded his own business. It was a nice change to the rest of the homeless people who always panhandled. But no, not this guy. And for that, I respect him. The guy has pride and dignity, and will never beg for money or food. That's why I respect him and feel happy when he's around. I accept his presence in the SUB.
I sometimes see people give him food, it's rather nice of them to do so. I always wanted to talk to him and help him out but felt super shy to give him food, and if I do manage to muster up the courage, I didn't want to offend him and label him "homeless" and "starving" by doing so. I didn't want to show pity, that's all. I might offend him. He's always sitting there, never asking anyone for anything, and kept to himself. I always see him read and wondered how he got this way. He's obviously intelligent judging by the way he constantly reads and enriches his mind, unlike the other homeless guys.
I always wanted to hear his story and find out why he's there. I always walk by him, always wondering if he's got a warm and safe place to sleep at night, or if he has enough money to buy himself food and support himself. I think there were several occasions where I saw him take the 99 b-line to campus. I often wondered where he lived.
RIP Trevor Wimble. You will be greatly missed. That empty chair will never be the same.
