Another quick update:
1. The psychology GRE's were FUCKING hard (excuse the language, but they really were that ridiculous). My only hope is that everyone else did as badly as I did, so I get into the higher percentiles. I'm doing a specialist degree in psych, and it killed me...I can only imagine how the students with just majors or minors did.
2. My life is moving faster than I am. In two weeks, I have two papers due, grad photos, work on my thesis at the hospital, I have to go out of town to meet a prof at another university, my father's moving here, the choir's Christmas concerts, classes, sewing I HAVE to do, work......I'm surprised my hair's still in my follicles.
3. The general GREs are today....wish me luck ;-)
4. I met a professor from Queen's today...he came to Toronto to give a seminar on dopamine-mediated incentive learning (for all you non-science nerds out there, just think of it as stuff that goes on in the brain :-p). He was really nice, and I'm going out of town to meet him at the university two weeks from now. It's funny...I had all the good stuff planned to tell him, but I got so intimidated I stammered through the five minutes we chatted for. It still went well though. He seems to be interested in having me as a grad student, and says that he'll keep an eye out for my application.
I'm hoping that helps with my chances of getting in...because I don't see how my B+ average is getting me anywhere fast. All the good stuff is happening this year, and it's not going to be on my transcript.
My transcript doesn't reflect my brains, really....it reflects my life at the time. When I was broke and working a 25hr week while at school part time, I got Cs and Ds. When I had my mother to help, and I didn't have to work as much, I got As and Bs. How am I supposed to put this in my statement of interest without sounding like a whiner?
5. The mental hospital where I'm doing my research is paying for me to go to another province (Prince Edward Island) to do neuropsychological assessments for them....all expense paid trip. How freakin cool is that? I must be doing SOMETHING right. :-)
6. I got Andre's album in the mail this week. Don't know about y'all, but I think it rocks.
Ok...that's the update on my life. Hope you all are doing well...I love you all and miss you guys. I'm looking forward to the relative normalcy of the Christmas holidays, and hopefully I can spend more time chatting with you all then.
Love,
RV
