That was a fun weekend!
The Annual Planet ComicCon blew though town for two days and I let the comic geek in me to come out and play but following the grand tradtion of drooling at the pros and digging though the 50 cent boxes under tables looking for those last few holes in my collection or others. Anyways I had a blast Nick and Val came up for Sat only and we had fun hanging out and catching up. Last time I physically saw them both was back in January for the New Years Party.
Anyway I got there first (no shocker since they had to drive two and a half hours to get to KC) and made a bee line for artists alley. For those non comic geeks, artists alley is where all the budding to pro comic artist, sculpters, inkers, writers are located. Here you can chat get stuff signed and if your REALLY lucky pick up a print or get a commissioned sketch. Anyway I home in on Rick Burchett who does Batman comics and the Animated Series Comic too and snagged my annual commission from him. This year I did something diff I asked him to do Chastity again and add in Ethan Rice to the pic as well for kicks. I have the final piece colored and I'm gonna post it when I get it converted to jpg.
While that was being drawn, Val finally caught up with me and as my sketch was finished we started trailling though the con. Damn it was the biggest I have seen in years, wow wall to wall comics, videos, statues, action figures, t-shirts, and other stuff. WHEEE! We lost Nick to box diving right off the bat and then we lost him again to a huge display of Star Wars stuff, we are talking MIB toys from the 70-80's here, the boy was in heaven to say the least.
Okay we broke for lunch came back got more stuff signed, found some more holes, (I snagged a few more items in my quest to get every single Chastity Comic ever made) The we headed out to the Mall of the Great Plains for some window shopping, the next part of the plan was to head to the Plaza for more window shopping and dinner, but the temp ws cold with a nasty sharp wind. We decided against that idea and they headed back to Wichita and I back home.
And to make my day even more fun I was able to make it back in time for my LEST2 session. Damn that was a trippy session to say the least, I'll cover that later. Anyways on Sunday I treked back to the Con and did more brousing, if you REALLY wanna look for stuff and chat with people, the second day of a two day con is better, less crowds ^_^ So I start digging for some really hard to find stuff and Val? You were right somebody DID have that Nightwing Statue...at a tag of 190.00 but they had two I think (not on display though). I have the guys business card and he also said he's got a pal that does repairs on BADLY broken statues so if you still have the pieces to Nightwing we MIGHT be able to get it fixed. *crosses fingers*
I tried to get a Rick Stasi sketch but he was mega busy on Sunday (he warned us =P) so I broused a bit more picked up a book 'The Art of David Micheal Lisner' he does the Dawn comics and I really like his work, this was a nice hardback edition for about 20.00 bucks so I thought what the hell and snagged that up too. Then I noticed that Moy (Comic Artist for DC's Legionnares) was not doing anything and taking commissions. He has a really slick and clean style and his characterizations are cute, so I asked for a Chastity and he needed a decent referance pic.
Insert SW doing a mad dash into the 50 cent bins to FIND a Chaz Comic.
Found one! He was happy and I was chatting with his brother, also a comic artist currently doing the Powerpuff Girls, I also found out he was ALSO a Chaz fan, specifially of Ed Benes who did the Lust for Life Chasity Mini. I also found out who has been outbidding me on eBay when those original pages come up for sale LOL! I have I think 2-3 he has 6-7.
Anyway I break for lunch and go though the Lisner Book that I just bought to kill time while my Chaz was being drawn, when I was done so was he and I decided to call it a day.
More later...I ain't done yet x_X Lunch break is about over.
