Weekend - Moving and Recovery

Jun 25, 2012 09:58

Saturday we helped my Dad pack a moving truck. It sucked. He's moving out west, out of state ... and far too far away. I get his reasons for moving, and I know I was really the only reason he stayed in Houston, but I'm still sad about it. I miss him very much but at least I got the chance to build a good relationship with him while he was here and we already have plans for him to come back later this year for a visit, as well as for me to go visit him. With phones we'll certainly be able to stay in touch, I just won't be able to pop over there when we want to see each other. Speaking of phones, I'm getting messages from him each night to let me know how far he made it and that he's safe so I'm happy with that.

Sunday was a very lazy day. We did laundry and went to the grocery store. All the fresh stuff in produce is wonderful, I'm apparently starting the habit of keeping avocado, mushrooms, and tomato on hand for salads and wraps. The store was a bit more crowded than I expected, given that it was Sunday morning but it didn't matter. Lynn and I joked, laughed, and flirted our way though shopping. It was just like when we first got together.

The very first weekend he came to see me we made dinner together. We both laughed about how well we worked together in the kitchen, how in sync we were. We compared it to a dance. We reached around each other and seamlessly worked together to make dinner. It's been one of our favorite things about dinner on the weekends, that kitchen dance. For the last 3 or 4 months it's been missing but it was back last night. It was wonderful!

Speaking of dinner and wonderful. He cut up some bacon, to get rid of most of the fat and then cooked that a little bit. We drained most of the grease, added some chopped red onion, chopped mushrooms, a little minced garlic, and a couple mystery steaks. He took care of a couple baked potatoes while I made a salad with, lettuce, avocado, diced tomato, sunflower seeds, bella mushrooms, and some shredded cheese. ZOMG, So Good!
