I suspect most of the people who read this journal read Rey's as well, and are therefore somewhat caught up on the household goings-on. Rey has been jobless for some time, Bridgie was struggling with medication changes, and got that sorted out only to lose her job as well. Since I haven't been working myself, we no longer have any steady, reliable source of income. It's an ugly situation, and one echoed loudly across the country, I suppose. I am confident that we will get by, between unemployment and tax returns and the inevitability that jobhunting will pay off, sooner or later.
I should be doing more to help.
March is always an ugly month in my own book, the time of year when I find myself truly wanting a drink again. There's an anniversary to be observed, the knotted tangles of blood relations to be prodded at, and the ever-distressing holiday wherein I am reminded that alcoholism and being Irish go hand in hand in many people's minds. Bridgie's birthday at the beginning of the month was unfortunately lackluster due to all that's been going on, and I feel badly for that.
Amidst the chaos I shall continue to practice escapism through roleplay. I'm enjoying plyaing The Shadow (
evillurks), although the plot has stalled somewhat, again due to the chaos of our lives. I shall try to revive it.
I was reminded I've been tagged on a meme, some time back last month. I believe I'm meant to tag others, but I shan't. Anyone who wishes to do the meme may, and you're allowed to alter any questions you'd like.
1. Make a list of 5 things you can see without getting up: Bridgielove, Ripping Yarns on the television, a pencil sharpener, my own hands, and rather a lot of papers.
2. How do you style your hair? Pulled back, when it's grown long, as it has now. Brushed back when it's shorter.
3. What are you wearing now? White button down shirt, vest, jeans.
4. What's your occupation? Retired early. I have worked at a wide number of jobs, over the years.
5. Do you nap a lot? Not really, less now than when I was overworked and ill. I reached a point where if I sat down for any length of time without something specific to do, I'd wake later with a crick in my neck.
6. Who was the last person you hugged? Bridgielove, I think.
7. Look out the window. What do you see? Rather a lot of darkness and the reflections of our lights.
8. Favorite class in school? Literature, always.
9. What was the last book you read? I just finished The Jade Dragon, one of the Shadow novels I've got on loan from the library. There wasn't nearly as much of Myra Reldon involved as I'd hoped.
10. What websites do you always visit when you go online? Livejournal, Yahoo Mail, LibraryThing, and Pulp Sunday.
11. What is your favourite color? Dark blue and silver.
12. Where do you see yourself in three years? I should hope we'll be more financially stable as a family, and I wouldn't mind moving northwards a bit, but apart from that I'd be content to be more or less in the same place, as far as living situation and relationships. I suppose I ought to do something with the Nanovel.
13. What are your hobbies? Writing is something I very much enjoy, but I still consider it a hobby. I don't think I'm good enough to be a professional at it, and I don't work at it as hard or as often as I should. I also enjoy the mucking about with glue and paper and stamps for altered art or bookmarks.
14. Where would you most like to visit? I would like to see Ireland again, someday.
15. What is your favourite weather and why? I suppose like the weather of autumn, windy days and sometimes I even like a slightly foggy, drizzly grey day. I wouldn't want that weather all the time, but I appreciate it in its season.
16 Who is the person on your flist you've known the shortest? I suppose it's Karen, but I know her better than some of the others on the list I've known over a longer period of time.
17. Who is the person on your flist you've known the longest? Rey, since she was fairly young.
18. What's something you'd like to say to someone right now? Your work is worthwhile, and I'm very proud of you for your dedication and passion. I wish you could believe that your efforts are truly having an effect in the world.
19. If you were in a band, what kind of music would you play and what instrument would you play? My voice, I suppose. I'm better at singing and only dabble with instruments.
20. Tell me something you love about the person who tagged you. She is not only a passionate and driven artist, but a very laid back and understanding person.
