The Sidewalk Savvy

You scored a 80 on Savvy

You're probably a resident of NYC, but you may not have always lived there. You sure know your way around a city sidewalk: you cross the street when the orange hand is flashing, but you do so with haste and only when the traffic light is still green. You have manners, but don't take sh*t from anyone. You know enough to keep your bag close to your body, but you aren't about to clutch it in a death grip, either. You'll get to your destinations quickly and with ease, despite the group of gawking tourists taking pictures right in the middle of the sidewalk. The people walking 4-wide down the sidewalk slowly do irritate you, but don't worry: you'll bypass them in no time.

Well, yes. Has anyone in New York always lived there? It's been some years now since I lived there.

The aether carries the information, the aether is information. You are one of the few who know the ins and outs of Aether Terminals. You can access information across the Aethersphere, tapping into the Aetherpipes of anyone you want and stealing the information stored in their datatanks. Some think of you as a myth, a legend created to scare people. You are no myth or legend, you are quite real and you are currently reading the Queen’s AetherMissives.

I appreciate that the typewriter is an Underwood.

My latest trip to ExLibris was wonderful, resulting in a copy of The Son of Tarzan (1918), which I dove into immediately once I got home, and Journey to the Centre of the Earth (1905). I fear that once I finish reading the latter, I will be dragged off to see the recent film with Brendan Fraser, an adaptation which boggles the mind from the previews alone. The illustrations in both these books are fantastic, and the rendition of Professor Von Hardwigg reminds one acutely of Tod's depiction of Jonathon Crane. Not much like Brendan Fraser at all, really. Not that I have anything against the actor, the girls play the Mummy movies all the time...

I'm looking forward to the trip to Maine next week, fot the ocean, the change of scenery, and the vague possibility of wandering into unfamiliar used bookshops. My glass-doored bookcase is nearly full, and I may be forced to relocate the less fragile volumes.
I should like a copy of the earlier Tarzan works, any Christopher Morley I don't already own, and as my copy seems to have vanished into the void I am getting desperate for another Stalky & Co.
