I cannot imagine that this is a product of an idle wish to be elsewhere.  I've wished such a thing many times before and have never ended up in such a place.

So, I can only assume I am dreaming.  That or I've been kidnapped, in which case you have my pity, for I will bring you no joy.

...I will say this method of communication is odd and I dislike ( Read more... )

[She's wandering around the fountain with bare feet, weaving in and out unnoticed to the people around her, taking in the sights. Except she stops when she spots him, because there's something about him that's off. He feels different than the others.]

[He's puzzling over the network communicator, gloved fingers holding it gingerly like it might explode if he should press a wrong button. The people, he ignores largely as they seem to ignore him. Though one is staring...

He bends slightly at the waist in a bow. Enough for acknowledgment without obeisance.]

[A bow. A quaint greeting used only now for dances and social events. The female equivalent is a curtsy, so she takes hold of the edges of her skirt and draws quite a graceful one for someone who had never done it before. She enjoys it because it used to signal the coming of a dance and although it might have lost its meaning, the momentary hope is enough]

[If this had been the Bright Court a dance would not be out of the question. But Roiben has not danced for his own pleasure in years and is not about to take up the task with strangers. Her curtsy suggests gentry. Blunt as his tongue may be now, he still remembers the courtly graces.]

Greetings, lady. Will you tarry?

[She glances back at him in the manner that usually serves to make people uncomfortable - like she knows all of their secrets. Usually, they would be right. But as of this moment, she's getting nothing.]

I hear white noise and nothingness. It itches and stings because you're different. What are you?

[It takes a fair bit more than a girl's stare to make Roiben uncomfortable. He surveys her bare feet and spreads his hands in a graceful gesture.]

I am myself. I mean no harm to you.

[Both true. He could not lie, though he could twist the truth until it snapped.]

[She watches him survey said feet and decides to give an explanation]

They're anchors, because nothing here is solid. It isn't like the black.

[And that makes perfect sense...to her]

[He puzzles that out in his head, a slight frown pursing his lips and wrinkling his brow.]

No. I suppose it wouldn't be.
