Random thoughts about this year's election. I'm usually left of the left, so that should be enough to tell you where this is going. There are also some feminist thoughts about Hillary's speech, or rather the reaction to it.

Have you ever read the book "True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle"? It's an young adult novel from some time ago.

Your term "unnatural woman" brought it to mind.

On a seperate matter, black men were legally, if not truthfully, given the vote long before women. So it's fairly "natural" for a black man to be president before a woman.

One thing about Hillary losing the race is that the next woman who pushes this far will have a slightly easier path. Hillary broke through a lot of walls.

And yeah. Angry women are either bitches or adorable. Powerful women are usually just bitches. Confident is full of herself.

Good points - and I'll have to look that book up as I have not read it.

It revolves around a young teenage woman in the 1800's, I believe, who ends up the only female person on an entire ship captained by a sadistic bastard.

At one point, her life depends on her arguing whether her actions mark her as an "unusual woman" or an "unnatural woman".

Well, from what I've read of you, I think you'll enjoy it, young adult focus notwithstanding.

I actually read a lot of young adult stuff recently, so that shouldn't be a problem. Bigger worry is that I'll forget about it when I'm not reading 800 books for class (exaggeration, but the not-for-class reading has dropped off significantly).

Well, if I had an extra copy I'd mail it to you!

My Uncle Rick gave me a copy when I was about 9 years old, and wrote in the cover that it reminded him of me.
That statement and book affected me a great deal. And even though he's a ruthless, arrogant skinflint now, I'll always love him for that one act.
