Firefly, a headache.
I did a little background research...
It looks like cannon for Firefly is seriously messed up, some rather huge plot holes, not to mention that given reasonable time-speed tables Firefly 'verse would be somewhere in the proximity of the Centari System, which is bull, in my opinion.
So!
I'm going to have to pick and choose the 'facts,' which makes me cringe. I'll do my best to make it work though.
Does anyone know any Mandarin? I would love to have a list of commonly used terms and phrases to work with, and all the online dictionaries that I've used in the past for Japanese have left me with a rather... poor continuity expectation. For example, I often end up finding a simple term, such as 'night' is marketed as 'dung' on one dictionary and 'fairy' on another, while remaining 'night' on two others. Specifically endearments and curses would be most helpful, with salutations and farewells coming up shortly thereafter in usefulness.
Also, if anyone has a chart of some-sort, or knows where I could find one, that contains most of the mentioned facts in Firefly (such as planets (with crime syndicates, preferably (like Badger being on Persephony)), weapons, vehicles) I would appreciate it.
I've started writing the fic though, going to try and straighten out some stuff in my head (most of which is mentioned in this post) before I get too deep in the story though.
